In our work, we have observed that, at times, the activists we work with hold anti-imperialist views that create a certain resistance when it comes to learning English. However, we believe that English can also be a language for building relationships of liberation, especially in organizational and activist contexts.
That is why we have created an anti-imperialist English course in which we propose content, approaches, and methodologies that tell the history of peoples’ struggles and break away from the methodologies and content used for English instruction in schools and language institutes.
We offer English instruction at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels through content that condemns local and international imperialism and, therefore, invites students to use English for communication in spaces of social struggle.
